We all face opposition in this life. Some face more than others. Whatever it is that we face it is usually the hardest thing for us. What might slow one person down, won't even effect another and so on. Either way, we all at one point or another experience opposition. In one of my favorite scriptures in the Book of Mormon, it describes some of the opposition that we will face in life. Helaman says "...that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shal beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo..." The adversary works on us all in various different ways. But a couple things are for sure. That when we turn to Christ we can not fall. Another is that satan will always try to bring us down. Notice one of the first things Helaman mentions is that "when the devil shall send forth." Not if "the devil shall send forth." Satan does not want us to be happy in the slightest bit. He tries so very hard to destroy us all. He knows that we are children of our Heavenly Father and does not want us to return to Him. Often times satan doesn't come at us with everything that he has. He starts small. Every journey of a thousand miles begins with one step and he knows it. If he can get even one step out of line the rest of the journey is out of line as well. Our journey should always be facing Christ, but due to our mortal behaviors, we often succumb to temptation and turn our footsteps.
We all have great potential. I can whole heartedly say that because I know that we are children of God. We have the inherit ability to be great. When we are worthy we can do great things. Satan often sees those decisions coming up in our lives and does not want us to make the great decision, whether it be to get baptized, or serve a mission, or recieve a temple marriage. So he tries as hard as he can to stop us from making that decision. He uses everything he possibly can. Mighty winds, whirlwinds, hail and storms and much much more. As much as we'd like to say those examples aren't real, they surely are. People have had random snow storms the day of their baptism or the day they were planning to got the temple. But more often than that, he comes at us with our weaknesses. Whether it be TV, Radio, Movies, Friends, or even good things like school. He will try to keep us from the Savior.
Luckily for us, we do not have to worry about any of it. Yes we need to be aware, but never worried. We should "Trust in the Lord with all [our hearts] and lean not unto [our own] understanding. In all ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct [our] paths." Proberbs 3:5-6. When we trust in the Lord, we have faith that His promises will be fulfilled and that the temptations of the adversary "will have no power over us." I believe that God does exist and that He makes good on His promises. I believe that when we turn to Him, we can find the strength to overcome all obstacles, no matter how big they may seem. I believe that Christ has overcome all things so that we could turn to Him. I pray that we all might turn to Him who is mighty to save and I do so in the sacred name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
