If you live, work, or go to school at Taft, then you've probably heard of the United Christian Mission (or is it United Mission Church?) Whatever. According to them, they're an NGO that aids the less privileged families in Mindanao, and they're here in Luzon to solicit donations for the poor families. Take note: they don't accept food, clothing, or any material things... JUST MONEY. And they like do that everyday; a day wouldn't pass without me having an encouter with those people. You see, the thing is I don't only get to see them once, but twice (even thrice) a day!

Encounter 1: On my way to school
I usually ride a jeep on my to school that's why always see these people. They transfer from jeep to jeep, soliciting money. And they like have this speech and would even quote some verse from the Bible before asking for donations. Tsk. (Though shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.). And after that they'll say something about us getting lucky in our endeavors cuz we gave them some money. Wth?

Encounter 2: Warzone
Grabe hanggang sa Warzone nakikita ko sila! What's worse is that they won't leave your side until you give them some money. If you like tell them, "Sorry ate, wala akong barya eh" they'll like say naman, "sige na po.. kahit 5 lang po sir/ma'am." What the??? Eh kung wala nga talaga eh, diba?

Encounter 3: On my way home.
Exactly like Encounter 1.

When I first came across these people, I wasn't hesitant to give them some money cuz it's like a charity or something. I even felt a bit disgusted over those people who just brush them off. But after 3 weeks of seeing them everyday, I just felt like giving them money is starting to become an obligation for me; like a part of my allowance is already allotted for them. I now understand why most passengers just pretend to be asleep or just don't mind them. I began asking myself if they really are an NGO and if the money ever reaches the poor families in Mindanao. It's like I would rather give alms to those beggars along Taft cuz at least I'm sure that they receive the money first-hand and not just through some organization that I haven't even heard of.

So, what do you guys think? Is it for real or is it just a sham?
