This post is in response to some Anti-Mormon literature my companion and I ran into this last week. This literature claimed to prove the Book of Mormon false. They claimed to have proved it false using human methods. Because of the slightest variations in grammar, they claim the Book of Mormon false. If that be the case the Bible must also be false. I am not trying to start a confrontation, but to plead that people don't disregard scripture because of mans mistakes. The Bible is the word of God, so long as it is translated correctly. The Book of Mormon is also the word of God. But like any other spiritual truth, it can neither be proven nor disproven by man. God has stated in Malachi: "prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour out the blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it." In this particular instance The Lord is referring the law of Tithing, but the same principle applies. If we try what is placed in front of us, The Lord will either "pour out the blessings of heaven" or He won't. By those fruits we shall know whether the teaching is of Christ or if it is not. When it is of Christ we feel the Holy Spirit. (Galatians 5:22) When it is not of Christ we will have a stupor of thought. The Book of Mormon is true. It makes promises that no false book would ever dare. 2 Nephi 32:3 states that we should "feast upon the words of Christ; for behold, the words of Christ will tell you all things what ye should do." I could go on finding promises that the Book of Mormon makes that if it were false would quickly lead to its demise, but the most powerful promise the Book of Mormon makes to us is found in Moroni 10:3-5.
"3 Behold, i would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts.
"4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
"5And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things."
I have to wonder why a book, if false, would make a promise that wholly rely upon the reader and God. If false that connection between us and God would very quickly let us know that it is wrong. But because it is true it greatly enhances our relationship and trust in God. Because we can rely on Christ and our Heavenly Father to answer our prayers, we can know the truth of the Book of Mormon through the Holy Ghost.
We must try the things taught in the Book of Mormon to realize it's true. We cannot condemn it because of the grammar or the imperfections of men.
